FUE FOR EYEBROWS AND EYELASHES

People might think that the crowning glory experiencing hair loss is the only reason to get a hair transplant. Now that eyebrow shaping and restoration and longer eyelashes have become a trend, people with extremely uneven eyebrows or short lashes may already consider hair transplant for these areas. What is surprising is that the FUE hair transplant process normally done at the scalp is also recommended for eyebrows and eyelashes

FUE eyebrow and eyelash transplant is becoming a popular process to improve the general appearance and balance of the face because having full and natural appearing eyebrows contributes to its aesthetic appearance. People who are qualified to undergo eyebrow restoration by FUE method are people who suffer from congenital absence of eyebrows, who wish to cover scars from trauma (from disease, accidents or burns), or have excessively uneven or thin eyebrows due to excessive waxing, chemical peeling or aging. People with medical treatments such as chemotherapy, however, may not be a good candidate for FUE eyebrow transplant as hair often grows once the patient is done with the treatment. Like in eyebrow restoration, candidates for eyelash FUE hair transplant are usually people with naturally short eyelashes, or hair falling off due to trauma.

For the eyebrow restoration by FUE method, hair follicles are harvested from the scalp using smaller diameter tools to obtain very fine hair follicles that resembles hair follicles which form natural eyebrows. This method is practically painless and prevents any marks or scars. The method usually takes 1-2 sessions under a local anesthesia to achieve the best possible result. One session of transplant may require a few dozens of very fine hair follicles to cover up a small scar or several hundred for full restoration of brows. The transplant process is a very straightforward one, as once the patient and the surgeon have decided on the natural design of the eyebrows, the transplant can start already. The implantation of grafts in the brows can be challenging, as you need to carefully place the hair follicles in the same direction as the existing eyebrow hairs. Once most of the grafts are transplanted, eyebrows will be checked, and rechecked, to make sure that the patient and the surgeon are satisfied with the results. You will definitely see the results with minimal pain. There will be a small likelihood of swelling in the forehead during the first few days but can be concealed by makeup. Transplanted hairs will fall out at around two to three weeks but will regrow at four months. Over the next six months, the eyebrows will become denser and will require trimming usually every two to three weeks to groom the brows.

The eyelash transplant by FUE method is generally the same as that of the eyebrow restoration, but more meticulous and delicate. The procedure is normally performed under a mild oral sedative and will usually take up to two hours. The donor hairs come from the scalp, and will continue to grow so it will need to be trimmed at least once a month. To have a natural appearance, the follicles are transplanted one at a time and should be perfectly placed at the right angle and direction to mimic the natural growth of the eyelashes. It will typically involve the placement of 25 to 50 hair follicles into each upper eyelid, depending on the existing amount of hair and the desired appearance. The procedure is essentially painless, as well as the recovery period. For the first 3 to 4 days post procedure, tiny crusts will form around each transplanted hair, and there can be pinkness or mild swelling of the eyelids which will fade out in a week or so. Sutures placed around the area will be removed in a week. Transplanted hairs will fall out at around 2 weeks and starts to regrow at 3 months and will continue to grow for a lifetime. However, once done, the patients need to understand that they will have to manually curl the eyelash in order to retrieve the sloping curve of natural eyelash hairs and some will grow in a less than ideal direction but can be trimmed very short to train it to grow in the right direction.
